How to Use the Pomodoro Timer

1

Choose your mode

Select Focus (25 min), Short Break (5 min), or Long Break (15 min). Customize durations in the settings below the timer.

2

Start the timer

Click Start and focus on one task until the timer rings. Avoid distractions — that's the core of the Pomodoro method.

3

Take your break

When the timer ends, switch to Short Break. After 4 rounds, take a Long Break. The browser tab will show the countdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique splits work into 25-minute focused sessions (Pomodoros) separated by short breaks, improving focus and reducing mental fatigue.

Why 25 minutes?

Research shows most people can sustain deep focus for 20-30 minutes before attention drifts. 25 minutes is the sweet spot — long enough to make progress, short enough to stay sharp.

What do I do during the break?

Step away from your screen. Stretch, hydrate, or take a short walk. Avoid social media during short breaks — save that for long breaks.

Can I change the timer duration?

Yes. Adjust Focus, Short Break, and Long Break minutes using the inputs under the timer. Changes apply immediately.

Does the timer work if I switch tabs?

Yes. The timer runs in the background. The page title updates with the remaining time so you can see it in any tab.
